High school tennis playoffs: Beaufort vs. Lugoff-Elgin

McKenzie and Madison Daniel led a Beaufort sweep through the opening round of the Class 4A tennis playoffs, cruising to a 6-0 victory Wednesday over Lugoff-Elgin that sets up a clash next week against powerhouse Myrtle Beach.

All five singles matches were won in straight sets, with McKenzie Daniel having perhaps the toughest path in a 6-3, 6-2 victory over Cameron Jenkins in No.1 singles. Madison Daniel, meanwhile, didn’t drop a game in her victory over Helen Odom.

Beaufort’s Sarah McMullen, Marah Aulabaugh and Hannah Morrissey also notched straight-sets victories in singles, and Lugoff-Elgin forfeited in doubles. Wednesday’s victory was the Eagles’ 500th in school history.

The Eagles will hit the road Monday to take on Myrtle Beach, which is seeking a fourth consecutive state title.
