High school tennis result: Hilton Head Island vs. Beaufort

McKenzie and Madison Daniel returned from a darkness postponement Tuesday to team up for the decisive doubles point, lifting Beaufort to a share of the Region 8-4A title with a 4-3 triumph over Hilton Head Island.

After five singles matches and the No.2 doubles left the score deadlocked 3-3 Monday, approaching darkness and no lights put the deciding match on hold for nearly 24 hours. The Eagles prevailed when the Daniel girls took a 6-3, 6-3 win over Hilton Head's Sarah Wood and Holly Kerr.

Beaufort and Hilton Head finished as co-champions, splitting their two meetings during the regular season. The Seahawks wound up with the No.1 seed and a first-round bye in the Class 4A playoffs that begin Wednesday; Beaufort hosts Lugoff-Elgin.

Hilton Head won three of five singles matches, but couldn't score a clinching point as McKenzie Daniel and Beaufort teammate Lucy Bruns each pulled out victories in third-set tiebreakers. Bruns prevailed in a marathon over Henry Claire Cram, winning 5-7, 7-5, 16-14.
