Seahawks rise to 6th on final day of Class 4A state golf tournament

Emma Hayward fired a second-round 77 Tuesday, helping Hilton Head Island move up five spots on the final day of the Class 4A tournament at the General Hackler course in Conway.

St. James ran off with its second consecutive state title, with Smith Knaffle taking individual honors following matching 3-under-par 69s. The Sharks (630) finished 38 shots ahead of second-place Greenville was second, with Daniel third at 677.

Hilton Head was tied for 11th entering the final day, but got improvement from every golfer to move up on the leaderboard. Heyward's two-day performance of 85-77 left her just outside the top 10 individually.

Madeline Prince was next for the Seahawks with scores of 87-84, followed by Megan Ferguson (98-99).

Beaufort placed 15th in the team competition, paced by Ashley Taylor (93-90) and Izzy Stone (98-95).
