Beaufort Academy falls short of SCISA tennis crown

Jayda Scheper's sweep of singles and doubles victories wasn't enough to propel Beaufort Academy to a championship Thursday, beaten by Lowcountry Prep 5-3 for the SCISA Class 1A tennis title in Summerville.

Scheper defeated Lowcountry Prep's Emerson Pate 6-1, 6-2 in the No.1 singles match at Pinewood Prep, then teamed with Abby Dalton in doubles for a 6-4, 6-2 victory over Pate and Kaitlyn Bellune.

Beaufort Academy's only other point, though, came from senior Weezie Gallant as she defeated Eileen Starnes in the No.6 singles match.

Lowcountry Prep swept the middle singles matches to take a 4-2 lead into doubles, then clinched the title when Sara Balding and Cooper Whitlock won their doubles match over BA's Lila Alcott and Emily Potter.
