High school cross country result: Class 3A regionals at Wade Hampton
May River girls, Bluffton boys win titles: Madison Lewellen led all runners as four May River girls placed among the top seven Tuesday to capture the school’s first cross country region championship, winning the Region 8-3A crown.
The boys’ trophy went to the other campus in Bluffton, as the Bobcats finished at the front of the pack.
Lewellen captured individual honors in the girls’ race, crossing the finish line in 21 minutes, 19 seconds. May River teammate Emma Peluso was 10 seconds behind in third, with Victoria Sosa (22:00) coming in fifth and Gracyn Drury (22:37) in seventh.
The region crown was May River’s third in any sport during its inaugural year of existence, coming on the heels of boys’ and girls’ swimming titles last month.
Bluffton took second in the girls’ competition; Wade Hampton was the boys’ runner-up with May River third.
