High school cross country result: Class 4A regionals in North Charleston

Seahawks excel without top runners: Even while allowing some of its top runners to rest, Hilton Head Island claimed the Region 8-4A girls’ crown with five of the top seven times at Wanamaker Park. The Seahawks also took runner-up honors in the boys’ competition.

Freshman Tori Herman claimed the girls’ individual title, out nearly a half-minute ahead of her nearest pursuers to cross the finish line in 20 minutes, 42.49 seconds. Teammate Esther Anderson was next in 21:10.83.

Not far behind were Sarah Neville in fourth place, Emmy Todd in fifth and Valeria Morales in seventh.

The Hilton Head boys were second behind Cane Bay in the team competition, with three top-10 finishes and three more in the top 20.

Corbin McKinney paced the Seahawks with a second-place finish, notching a time of 18:13.62. Palin Kayser was sixth and Colton Thune ninth.

Beaufort placed third in the boys’ competition and fifth among the girls.
