High school cross country result: Sandhills Invitational

Seahawks finish strong at Sandhills: Mallory Liggett and Isabel Nuehleman each notched top-five finishes in pacing the Hilton Head Island girls to the team title at the Sandhills Invitational held Saturday in Columbia.

Liggett was fourth across the line in 19 minutes, 28.6 seconds for the 5K Sandhills course, with Muehleman next in 19:34.02. With three other finishers in the top 30, the Seahawks clipped Dutch Fork for team honors.

The Hilton Head boys were second in points behind Wando, despite top-10 finishes from both Ben Gilman (16:00.75) and younger brother Sam (16:11.21). Two other Seahawks finished among the top 25, but Wando saw seven runners finish among the top 27.
