High school swimming result: Beaufort Academy Invitational
Erek Nelson and Kaitlyn Pangilinan were double winners and May River swimmers dominated the relays as the Sharks swept both boys’ and girls’ titles from the Beaufort Academy Invitational.
The meet brought together seven area swim teams, with the top three looking identical in both sets of standings. Bluffton was second in both divisions, with Beaufort in third.
Nelson, who owns the state’s top time in the 100-yard backstroke, captured that event and the 200 individual medley on Thursday. He also anchored two of May River’s three winning relays, as the Sharks swept the 200 and 400 freestyle relays and 200 medley releay.
Pangilinan touched first in both the 200 freestyle and 500 freestyle, and was a part of winning May River freestyle relays. The Sharks also got boys’ wins from Camron Reid (100 butterfly) and Sam Villalobos (100 freestyle).
Bluffton had double winners in Abby Hess (girls’ 50 freestyle, 100 backstroke) and Nicholas Suaza (100 breaststroke, 200 individual medley), along with individual victories by Letia Reed (100 breaststroke) and Nik DiCarlo (50 freestyle).
Other area winners were Hilton Head Island’s Thomas Hughson (boys’ 500 freestyle) and the Hilton Head Christian girls’ 200 medley relay.
