BASEBALL

Hilton Head Prep in SCISA semifinals: Tyler Fox belted a two-run homer in the opening game and spun a two-hitter in the second as the Dolphins swept a doubleheader from Lee Academy to punch their ticket to the SCISA 2-A semifinals.

The Dolphins advanced to a three-game series against Pee Dee Academy, starting Tuesday on the road. Prep will host the second game at 5 p.m. Wednesday, with a possible third game Friday at a neutral site.

The opener was scoreless until Lee Academy pushed across a run in the top of the sixth, only for Fox to turn the tables in the bottom of the inning. Gage Hurlbut drew a one-out walk and was erased on a fielder’s choice before Fox ripped his first pitch over the left-field fence.

Cem Caglayan scattered five hits for the win, and Fox was even more stingy on the mound in Game 2 as the Dolphins again used late-game heroics with two runs in the sixth. Kyle Adkins and Nick Lucchesi had RBI singles to break a 1-1 tie.

BOYS’ SOCCER

Socastee 1, Bluffton 0: Chris Matlashewski’s first-half goal provided all the scoring as the Bobcats’ second loss of the season eliminated them in the Class 4-A Lower State semifinals.
