High school sports, April 15: HHH baseball goes extra innings to beat Hanahan
Dalton Shaw stroked a game-ending RBI single with the bases loaded in the bottom of the eighth Thursday, sending Hilton Head Island to a 2-1 baseball victory over Hanahan.
Tad Zmarzly got the rally started with a one-out walk, went to second on Eric Foggo's single and to third when Hanahan's right fielder misplayed Ian Foggo's fly ball. Shaw followed with a line drive to right as Zmarzly scored easily.
Logan Toomer picked up the win with two innings of relief, allowing one hit, after Troy Clifford went the first six. Clifford scattered just two hits during his work, striking out seven Hanahan batters.
Shaw and both Foggos went 2-for-4 for the game, with Clifford also contributing two hits at the plate. Zmarzly drew three walks.
Battery Creek 4, Bluffton 2: Henry Schubert scattered four hits in going the distance for the Dolphins and brought home three runs with a fourth-inning single.
Schubert put Battery Creek ahead for good when his single to center cleared a bases-loaded situation. Tyler Huffman stroked a one-out single, Gavin King walked and Armani Gibbs' infield single loaded the bases for Schubert.
Bluffton managed just four singles on the day from Hunter Eldridge, Henry Holmberg, Tristan Lowe and Jordan Kennedy.
