High school sports, April 7: Beaufort bludgeons Stall with 14-hit attack
Rome Wallace and Connor Clancy drove home four runs apiece as part of 14-hit Beaufort attack Wednesday, powering the Eagles to an 11-2 baseball victory over Stall.
Thomas Mull and Clayton Ruff combined on a one-hitter for the Eagles, collecting five strikeouts between them.
Wallace, Brice Adkins and Jeffrey Smyth each banged out three hits for Beaufort, with all of Smyth’s hits going for doubles. Clancy went 2-for-3 on the way to his four RBIs.
Bluffton 9, Colleton County 0: Griffin Yeager’s two-run double sparked a five-run second inning to propel the Bobcats to their second win of the week.
Tim Ortega drove home three runs with a pair of hits for Bluffton (9-4), while Jeffery Hodge and Hunter Eldridge delivered RBI singles. Sean Sutay pitched a four-hit complete game, striking out four.
SOFTBALL
Battery Creek 5, Beaufort 0: Alexis Ortiz pitched a three-hit shutout and delivered an RBI triple as the Dolphins remained unbeaten in region play.
Battery Creek amassed 11 hits in all, including a pair by Emily Madlinger as she was honored on Senior Night. Jessica Shipley and McKenzie Young also had two hits apiece, while Journeigh Doray had an RBI double.
Ortiz struck out eight Beaufort hitters and walked three, as the Dolphins now have won 11 straight.
Wade Hampton 14, Whale Branch 13: A four-run seventh inning sent the Warriors to disappointment, putting a damper on a second straight offensive outburst that included Cydney Boggs’ grand slam in the third.
Boggs’ blast capped a six-run third inning for Whale Branch, while Rikia Singleton had a two-run homer in the fourth and drove home another run with a fifth-inning single.
Singleton finished with three of the Warriors’ eight hits, while Chyla Simmons adding two. Karen Rivers scored four times, each coming after drawing a walk.
BOYS’ GOLF
HHCA wins at Cat Island: Matt Lehman and Daniel Azallion both fired 2-under-par 34s to put Hilton Head Christian atop the leaderboard at a SCISA region event at The Sanctuary.
R.J. Bartolomucci added a 38 and Anna Eddy shot 39 to give the Eagles a team score of 145, six shots ahead of runner-up Hilton Head Prep. Pope John Paul II was a distant third.
Walker Campbell and Aidan McCloskey led Prep with a pair of 36s. Andrew Swanson was JP2’s low scorer with a 43, and Joe Stowe led host Beaufort Academy with a 40.
BOYS’ SOCCER
Hilton Head Island 3, North Gwinnett 2 (OT): Nick Hoffman scored the winner in extra time to lift the Seahawks, after North Gwinnett’s Jaylim Aboneaaj extended the game with a goal in the final minute of regulation.
Noa Pagatpatan and Koben Barrientos scored in regulation for Hilton Head Island (8-2-1), while Hoffman and Gaston Rodriguez picked up assists.
GIRLS’ SOCCER
Savannah Christian 5, Hilton Head Christian 4: Allison Meeder scored twice as the Eagles fell just short after battling back from a 4-0 halftime deficit. Sydney Camp and Emily Bailey tallied HHCA’s other goals.
