High school sports, March 12: Beaufort soccer blitzes Berkeley

Noah Kimbrell scored four goals, while Jack Gambla and Raymond Ramos added two apiece Friday as Beaufort hammered Berkeley 10-0 in the Eagles' Region 8-AAA boys' soccer opener.

Trevor Guynup and Jordan Walker scored the other goals for Beaufort (2-3-1), which led 6-0 at halftime and continued to control the second half. Guynup also had two assists, while Andrew Stoddard, Luke Owens and Everett Strmac had one each.

Goalkeeper Brooks Wilson made four saves to preserve the Eagles' shutout.

Hilton Head Prep 5, John Paul II 4: Waddy Brooks scored three goals and Mac Orie added two as the Dolphins won for the third time in as many games this season.

Two goals by Karl Johnson weren't enough to keep John Paul II from remaining winless in four matches. Goalkeeper Sam Villalobos made four saves for the Golden Warriors.

Hilton Head Island 5, Stall 2: Nick Hoffman scored two goals and assisted on two others as the Seahawks won their home opener.

Koben Barrientos also scored twice and added an assist, while Jesus Garcia tallied the remaining goal for Hilton Head Island (2-1-1).

GIRLS' SOCCER

Beaufort 6, Berkeley 0: Heily Hernandez scored three times and Bella Kimbrell added two as the Eagles cruised to victory.

Savannah Harrington tallied the remaining goal for Beaufort, while goalkeepers Lilly Allen and Maddie Brace combined to record 10 saves.

Hilton Head Prep 6, John Paul II 0: Charlotte Covington scored four goals and Catherine Sheehan produced the other two for the Eagles (1-1).

Goalkeepers Kate Herman and Melhis Terhi combined to keep a clean sheet for Prep.

BASEBALL

Pinewood Prep 7, Hilton Head Prep 3: Cem Caglayan and Tyler Fox combined to allow only three earned runs, but the Panthers took advantage of Prep mistakes to hand the Dolphins only their second loss of the season.

Caglayan struck out six batters in four innings of work, while Fox notched five strikeouts in three innings and also homered for the Dolphins (4-2).

SOFTBALL

Beaufort 5, Colleton County 0: Mary Claire Sumner scattered three hits and struck out six in recording the shutout.

Sumner also shined at the plate with three hits for the Eagles (5-2), while Savannah Mullins, Maddie Powell and Rebecca Heape rapped out two hits apiece.

GIRLS' LACROSSE

Hilton Head Island 9, Blythewood 8: Katy Bautista tallied four goals and Delphia Reed added three as the Seahawks prevailed in a tight game.

Nicole Reed scored the other two goals for Hilton Head Island (3-2), while goalkeeper Rainy Rosas came through with four saves.
