High school sports, March 11: Seahawks squeeze past Bluffton in tennis
Tate Steinour and Cooper Steinour notched straight-sets victories in singles and teamed up for a doubles win Thursday to propel Hilton Head Island's tennis team to a 4-3 victory over Bluffton.
Sam Rothwell produced the Seahawks' other singles point, also winning in straight sets in the No. 5 singles position.
All three of Bluffton's points came in third-set tiebreakers, including a 12-10 triumph by the doubles team of John Welch and Tim Cullinen. Ryan Chafer and Alex Swetnam produced singles victories for the Bobcats.
Beaufort Academy 5, Pinewood Prep 4: William Lindsay and James Carden teamed for the deciding point in doubles as the Eagles claimed victory on the Pinewood courts.
Carden also won his singles match for Beaufort Academy (3-1), prevailing 10-7 in a third-set tiebreaker, while Daniel Richards and Mitchell Russell also registered points in both singles and doubles.
