Prep roundup, Feb. 6: Beaufort earns sweep of Hilton Head Island

Beaufort High School pulled off a home sweep of rival Hilton Head Island on Friday night.

Beaufort's boys overcame a slow start and a Bryce Singleton half-court buzzer beater to win in overtime 70-65.

The Eagles rallied from an eight-point halftime deficit and dominated overtime to post the win.

Dajour Cleveland had 15 points, Matt Garay scored 14, Kameron Jenkins had 11 and Marcus Owens added 10 as the Eagles improved to 5-3 in the region and 10-9 overall.

Beaufort will host Hanahan, a game ahead of Beaufort in the region race, for Tuesday's senior night.

The Beaufort girls defeated Hilton Head Island 48-21 to improve to 16-6 and 4-4 in Region 8-AAA.

The Eagles were led by Imari Smalls with 14 points and Naijuia Moyd with 12. Terrayah Williams added nine points.

Mariah Mervin led the Seahawks with eight points.

The Seahawks will host Orangeburg-Wilkinson for senior night at 6 p.m. Tuesday.

BOYS BASKETBALL

Hilton Head Christian Academy 70, John Paul II 34: The Eagles had four players in double figures in a region win.

Michael Graupner had 16 points and four steals to lead the way. Zeke Roulston had 14 points and 10 rebounds, Jamareon Clark added 13 points and RJ Bartolomucci chipped in with 10.

Karl Johnson led John Paul II with 13 points.

HHCA (10-10, 7-4 region) will play at Hilton Head Prep at 7:45 p.m. Tuesday.

Beaufort Academy 60, Hilton Head Prep 54: Beaufort Academy earned a rare season sweep of Hilton Head Prep, holding off numerous runs by the Dolphins.

The Eagles led by 15 points before Prep closed on an 11-2 run. Mac Orie scored 20 points, 14 in the second half to lead the Dolphins.

Luke Harper keyed the Eagles early and finished with 21 points. Kevin Williams finished with 20 points and 17 rebounds.

The fourth quarter belonged to Williams, who scored nine points and owned the defensive glass throughout the stanza. Alec Melville grabbed an additional 10 rebounds and dished out six assists for the Eagles.

BA improved to 15-5, 9-3, and the Eagles will travel to Bible Baptist on Monday.

JV: Beaufort Academy 37, Hilton Head Prep 28

Whale Branch 47, North Charleston 39: The Warriors were led by George Delaney with 13 points and Kenny Brown with 12.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

Beaufort Academy 41, Hilton Head Prep 31: Beaufort Academy was led by Mary Keane with 13 points, Amelia Huebel with 12 and Emily Hiers with 10.

The Dolphins (9-11, 2-6) were led by Catherine Sheehan with 22 points and four assists.

"This has team has faced more than their fair share of adversity this season," BA head coach Scott Huebel said. "The injuries we've had have been a tough blow, but these girls always keep fighting."

BA (8-10, 2-5) will play Monday at Bible Baptist in Savannah. The Dolphins will host Hilton Head Christian on Tuesday.

Whale Branch 46, North Charleston 22: A trio of Warriors -- Jonae Riley, Tyneshia Evans and Z Thompson -- scored eight points apiece to lead Whale Branch.

Battery Creek 49, Garrett Tech 19: Leading scorers for the Dolphins (7-2 Region 6-AA) were Taquasia Lampkin with 14 points, Jayden Thompson with eight and Daje Bartley with seven.

The Dolphins will play Whale Branch at 6 p.m. Tuesday.
