Prep roundup, Jan. 13: Beaufort Academy sweeps Hilton Head Prep

The Beaufort Academy girls basketball team outlasted Hilton Head Prep on the road Tuesday night, 30-27.

Mary Keane led BA (6-3) with 13 points, six steals and three assists. Sissy Mungin followed with seven points, eight steals and four rebounds. Amelia Huebel finished with four points, five rebounds, four steals and one assist.

"The girls showed a lot of guts fighting through adversity," BA head coach Scott Huebel said. "Our leading scorer fouled out in the fourth quarter, and we were missing a key player due to injury. They kept their poise and finished the job."

Maddie McDonald led Prep (5-7, 1-2) with 10 points.

Beaufort Academy, which led the whole game, hosts Bible Baptist at 6 on Thursday.

Berkeley 48, Beaufort 36: The Eagles lost their Region 8-AAA opener.

Brittany Whitmore and Terrayah Williams led Beaufort with eight points apiece.

The Eagles (12-3, 0-1) host Stall on Friday.

Hanahan 25, Hilton Head Island 24: The Lady Seahawks led by three at the half and held a three-point lead with just over a minute left, but Hanahan scored the final four points of the game and the Seahawks' shot at the buzzer fell short.

Junior Da'Nesha Miller led the Seahawks with seven points, and eighth-grader Jasmine Campbell scored five.

"Our defensive pressure and overall intensity was great tonight," Hilton Head Island head coach Sean Rochester said. "This one stings quite a bit. It was ours to win.

"But we'll learn from those late mistakes and grow from it moving forward."

Hilton Head will play at 6 p.m. Friday at Berkeley.

Bishop England 64, Battery Creek 24: Taquasia Lampkin scored 15 for the Dolphins.

BC plays at 6:30 p.m. Friday at Academic Magnet.

Middle school: Cross 28, St. Francis 26

BOYS BASKETBALL

Beaufort Academy 48, Hilton Head Prep 39: Beaufort Academy scored a rare win at Hilton Head Prep on Tuesday.

Kevin Williams scored 23 points and grabbed 21 rebounds for BA (7-3, 4-1), which hosts Bible Baptist on Friday.

Prep (5-7, 3-1) was led by Mac Orie with 13. The Dolphins face Hilton Head Christian on Friday.

JV: Beaufort Academy 25, Hilton Head Prep 22

Bethesda Academy 59, Hilton Head Christian 41: The Eagles (2-8, 0-2) were led by RJ Bartolomucci with 12 points and five rebounds.

Jake Heller added nine points and three steals.

Bethesda was led by Anthony Joyner with 23 points, and Keirsten Berkstener added 14.

JV: Bethesda 41, Hilton Head Christian 32

Whale Branch 64, Garrett Academy Tech 59: Cam Miller and Kenny Brown each scored 15 to lead the Dolphins to victory.

George Delaney added nine for Whale Branch.

Kenny Jones led Garrett with 15.

Middle school: St. Francis 39, Bolden 32
