The Hilton Head Island girls tennis team rolled over Aiken 5-1 on Thursday at Hilton Head Island High School to advance to host the Class 3-A Lower State Championship on Monday.
Now the only question is who the Seahawks will host. On the other side of the Lower State bracket, Beaufort and Hartsville were finally able to play their second-round match three days late. Hartsville won 6-0.
Hartsville will face Myrtle Beach between now and Monday to determine Hilton Head Island's opponent.
Hilton Head Island head coach Jennifer Weitekamper was happy with the performance by the Seahawks (15-4).
"Nice and strong and solid down the line," Weitekamper said. "At No. 2, Sarah Wood figured her game out and played a nice, tight game."
The Seahawks' only loss came at No. 1, where Jenn Oliver lost 6-3, 6-1 to Fredrecka Tucker.
"Jenn Oliver held her own," Weitekamper said.
"But that No. 1 spot is a tough spot. If and when we win it, it's a bonus."
The doubles match went to a tiebreaker, eventually won by Nicole Diaz and Sabrina Soliz.
"We're going to tighten that up," Weitekamper said. Overall, nice strong tennis."
