Prep roundup, Oct. 30: Hilton Head, Bluffton win volleyball playoff openers

Second-ranked and top-seeded Hilton Head Island beat Gilbert 3-0 at home Thursday in the opening round of the Class 3-A volleyball playoffs.

The Seahawks won by scores of 25-20, 25-11 and 25-19.

Senior Hannah Edelmann had 20 kills, six digs, two aces and two kill blocks, while junior DaNesha Miller had 10 kills, six digs, two aces and two kill blocks.

Setter Lexie Standen had 32 assists.

Hilton Head Island will host North Myrtle Beach at 6 p.m. Tuesday.

Class 4-A playoffs -- Bluffton 3, Conway 0: The Bobcats defeated the Tigers 25-18, 25-17, 25-14. Bluffton will host South Aiken at 6 p.m. Tuesday.

All-State: Bluffton junior Shadaisha Altacho has been named All-State for Class 4-A, while Hilton Head Island senior Hannah Edelmann and junior Alexxis Andreas have been named All-State for Class 3-A by the South Carolina Coaches Association for Women's Sports.

North-South: Hilton Head Island senior outside hitter Hannah Edelmann has been selected to play for the South 4-A/3-A team in the annual North-South All-Star Games scheduled for Nov. 20 and 21 at Erskine College in Due West.

SCISAA North-South: Thomas Heyward Academy's Madison Cooler, Victoria Quick and Jamie Davis have been selected to play for the 2-A South squad, while Beaufort Academy's Alyssa Patrick has been chosen to play for the 1-A South team in the SCISAA North-South All-State Games scheduled for Saturday at Wilson Hall in Sumter.
