Prep roundup, Oct. 23: Hilton Head, Bluffton claim region titles

The Hilton Head Island Seahawks girls and boys golf teams won Region 8-AAA championships Tuesday.

Sarah Cooke won the girls championship (20:22), and Chris Geiger won the boys championship (17:51).

    Bluffton: The Bobcats are the Region 8-AAAA champions with an 8-0 region mark and Natalie Bassett is the Region 8-AAAA Player of the Year.

    The Bobcats will open play in the SCHSL state playoffs Wednesday at home against Conway.

    Rachel Riley and Cooper Baxter joined Bassett on the all-region team.

    VOLLEYBALL

    Beaufort Academy: The Eagles went 2-1 on Friday and are still alive in the SCISAA Class 1-A state tournament.

    BA beat Cathedral Academy 2-1, lost to Patrick Henry Academy 2-1 and beat Jeff Davis Academy 2-0.

    They will face Richard Winn at 8 a.m. Saturday.
