Hilton Head Prep clinches home playoff game with win over Dorchester Academy
Tyler Fox rushed for two touchdowns and made a game-changing defensive play near the end of the first half for a third score to lead Hilton Head Prep over Dorchester Academy 38-22 on the road.
Gavin Hurlbut added two rushing touchdowns for the Dolphins (6-3, 5-1), who are guaranteed to finish no worse than second in the region and will host a first-round playoff game.
With Prep leading 14-7 late in the second quarter, Dorchester Academy had driven to the Dolphins 30. As their quarterback dropped back to pass, he was spun by a Prep defender and lost the ball 3 to 4 feet above his head.
Fox snatched the ball from the air and raced 70 yards for the score to take a 20-7 halftime lead. The Dolphins got the ball to open the second half.
"The defense played well again," Hilton Head Prep head coach Kevin Wald said. "Dorchester Academy is a solid team. This was a big game for us. It keeps us in contention for first place in the region.
"It felt like a playoff game. There was a good crowd, very intense. It never felt like you could let up or they'd come back."
