Prep roundup, Oct. 22: Thomas Heyward No. 1 seed in SCISAA volleyball tournament; Hilton Head has home court in playoffs

Thomas Heyward Academy (24-0) is the No. 1 seed in the Lower Bracket of the SCISAA Class 2-A Volleyball State Tournament that begins Friday in Spartanburg.

The Rebels (24-0) face Carolina Academy at 11:30 a.m. and would play the winner of fourth-seeded Christian Academy and Palmetto Christian at 2:30 p.m., should they win.

Hilton Head Christian is the No. 2 seed in the Upper Bracket. The Eagles face Florence Christian at 11:30 a.m. Friday. Should they win, they would face the winner of third-seeded Trinity-Byrnes and sixth-seeded Oakbrook Prep at 2:30 p.m.

Beaufort Academy is in the Upper Bracket of the Class 1-A tournament.

The sixth-seeded Eagles face third-seeded Cathedral Academy at 10 a.m. Friday. Should they win, they would face the winner of second-seeded Patrick Henry Academy and seventh-seeded Conway Christian at 1 p.m.

Friday's games are at the Upward Star Center. Saturday games are at the Upward Volleyball Center.

To reach Saturday play, teams must survive three games Friday.

SCHSL volleyball playoffs: Hilton Head Island, the Region 8-AAA champion and No. 2 in the state in Class 3-A, is the top seed in the Lower State bracket for the SCHSL volleyball playoffs.

The Seahawks (33-13-2) open the playoffs at home Oct. 29. They would host playoff games Nov. 3, 5 and 10 should they continue to win.

Bluffton, the region 8-AAAA champion, opens at home Oct. 29, as well. Should the Bobcats win, they are guaranteed at least one more home game.

The state championships are Nov. 14 at White Knoll.
