Hilton Head Island wins Region 8-AAA girls golf championship

Hilton Head Island High School won the Region 8-AAA girls golf championship Tuesday at Lady's Island Country Club.

The Seahawks (330) cruised past Beaufort (452) and Berkeley (568).

Hilton Head's Meredith Wipper shot even-par 72 to take medalist honors. Emma Hayward (80), Madeline Prince (88), Megan Weldy (90) and Grace Harkins (102) joined Wipper on the All-Region team, as did Izzy Stone (105) and Ashley Taylor (111) of Beaufort.

Other Beaufort golfer were Caroline Baker (115) and Colleen Watson (121).

The Seahawks next compete Monday at the Classs 3-A Lower State tournament at the Hackler Course at Coastal Carolina.

The Seahawks host the girls Class 3-A State Championship on Oct. 26 and 27 at the Barony Course in Port Royal Plantation.
