Prep roundup, Oct. 11: Thomas Heyward Academy volleyball still perfect at 21-0

Thomas Heyward Academy's volleyball squad won a showdown with region rival Hilton Head Christian 3-0 on Thursday to remain unbeaten at 21-0, 11-0 in region play. Set scores were 27-25, 25-23 and 25-16.

Top players for the Rebels were Madison Cooler (24 kills, 13 digs, five aces) and Jamie Davis (29 assists, seven digs).

Thomas Heyward will play Tuesday at Andrew Jackson Academy.

Beaufort Academy: The Eagles (5-8) beat St. Andrew's 3-0 on Wednesday and Hilton Head Prep 3-1 on Thursday. Beaufort Academy will host John Paul II at 6 p.m. Tuesday and Bible Baptist at 5 p.m. Thursday.


SCISAA 1-A/2-A state championships: The Beaufort Academy girls finished 15th, while the boys were sixth.

Hilton Head Island 172, Bluffton 176, Beaufort 236, Hilton Head Christian n/a (Thursday): Hilton Head Island's Meredith Wipper was the medalist with a score of 37. For the Seahawks, she was followed by Emma Hayward (39), Madeline Prince (45) and Megan Weldy (51).

Bluffton's low player was Kathryn Thorne (39), followed by Sophia Burnett (40), Brooke Larson (47) and Kaylia McIntyre (49).

Ashley Taylor was Beaufort's top player with a 48, followed by Colleen Watson (68), Caroline Baker (62) and Kyleigh Tokar (68).

Hilton Head Christian didn't have enough for a team score. The Eagles' low scorer was Jamie Hubbard with a 46. Rebecca Hubbard shot a 62, and Natalie Wade had a 64.


Beaufort 6, Hanahan 0: The Eagles improved to 7-9, 3-3 in Region 8-AAA.
