Ridgeland-Hardeeville dominates Region 5-AA awards

Given their performance this season, it’s no surprise the Ridgeland-Hardeeville Jaguars dominated the Region 5-AA basketball awards as voted on by the region’s coaches.

The girls, who host Mullins at 7 p.m. Friday in the second round of the 2-A playoffs, are 21-3 and went a perfect 10-0 to win the region crown.

Frederick Toomer is the Region 5-AA coach of the Year and Jayme Chisholm is the Player of the Year.

Joining Chisholm on the All-Region team is NyJae Boozer, ShaKeerah Grant and Kayla Hasty. Chisholm and Boozer are All-State nominees.

The boys (23-2) also went a perfect 10-0 to win the region title.

Jeremiah Faber was named the Coach of the Year while Kevon Williams is the Player of the Year.

Joining Williams on the All-Region team are Nazair Wilson, Trenard Ferrell and DeVontae Robinson.

In addition, Jasper County School District athletics director Michael Jordan has been selected the Region 5-AA Athletics Director of the Year and the District 7 Basketball Officials Association Athletics Director of the Year. This is Jordan's first year as JCSD athletics director.
