Playoff Roundup: Hilton Head Island season continues after win over Wilson
Hilton Head Island football continued its remarkable season on Friday night.
The Seahawks defeated Wilson, 31-7, in the second round of the SC High School League’s Class 4A Lower State playoffs. With the win, Hilton Head Island will face Gray Collegiate in the third round. The winner of the game advances to the Lower State championship.
Gray Collegiate defeated Hartsville, 49-28, in its playoff game Friday night.
Hilton Head Island is now 11-1 on the season, the most wins for the program since winning 11 games in 1990. The 1990 season also was the last time HHI made it to the third round of the playoffs.
The Seahawks trailed 7-0 in the first quarter before taking the game over.
Thaddeus Czarnecki rushed for 108 yards, two touchdowns and quarterback Derek Raniszewski threw a TD and also rushed for one. Czarnecki also had 13 tackles on defense.
Raniszewski was 8-of-13 passing for 114 yards and carried six times for 43 yards.
Jeremiah Walters was HHI’s top receiver after hauling in four passes for 110 yards and a TD.
Josh Bigger had three sacks for Hilton Head and Will Jimenez had two for the Seahawks, who turned it into their best defensive output of the season. It was the first time HHI allowed less than 10 points in a game since last season.
Pee Dee Academy 34, Hilton Head Prep 33
Tristan Heckman ran for five touchdowns and scored on a 55-yard touchdown run with four minutes left as the Eagles held off an upset attempt from the Dolphins in the SCISA 2A semifinals.
Pee Dee advances to the championship game and will play Bethesda on Nov. 22 at South Carolina State.
Hilton Head Prep was looking for its second straight upset after knocking off Calhoun Academy last week. The Dolphins led 33-22 with eight minutes left after Wyatt Harmer’s second touchdown of the game.
But Heckman scored to cut it to 33-28 and then Pee Dee recovered a fumble after the kickoff to set up the go-ahead TD. HHP got it to the Pee Dee 48 before turning it over on downs.
Wilson Hall 50 Hilton Head Christian 29
Ben McLaurin ran for four touchdowns and Ford Wilder had three as the Barons defeated the Eagles in the SCISA 3A semifinals.
Wilson Hall will play Pinewood Prep in the 3A championship on Nov. 22 at South Carolina State.
HHCA quarterback Kres Langhals threw three touchdown passes and Jackson Richardson had a TD run.
Williamsburg Academy 37, Thomas Heyward 20
Williamsburg Academy shut out the Rebels in the second half to advance in the SCISA Class A playoffs.
WA will face Colleton Prep in the state championship game on Nov. 22 at South Carolina State.
Micah Baulder and Eli Brown each had TD runs and threw TD passes to Charlie Caulder for WA. Balder’s TD pass to Caulder came with less than a minute left in the second quarter to give WA a 22-20 lead.
THA quarterback Joshua Gibson had two touchdown runs and Tony O’Banner had one.
