Back-to-back: Bluffton girls repeat as cross-country champions
The Bluffton girls’ cross-country team repeated as state champions Friday at Aiken Steeplechase.
Four runners placed in the top 11 as the Bobcats finished with 61 points for their second straight Class 4A championship. Bishop England was second with 104 points.
Giada Carge (18:44) led Bluffton with a fifth-place finish. Kaylee Degirmenci (19:00) was sixth. Emily Hunt (19:28) was 10th and Madelyn Crapps (19:33) was 11th. The top 15 runners earn all-state honors.
May River finished third, and Hilton Head Island was sixth. HHI’s Julia McKenna (18:34) was second behind Wren’s Daya Ross (18:03).
On the boys’ side, May River was fourth, Bluffton 12th and Hilton Head Island 13th. MR’s Talan Farrington (15:45) was second and Jackson Wright (16:28) was eighth to lead the Sharks. Bluffton’s Boyd Collins (16:35) was 12th.
South Pointe won the boys’ 4A championship and the Stallions’ Keller Brown (15:39) was first.
