HS Football Roundup: Hilton Head Island, Bluffton win regular-season finales
The 11th week of high school football action is in the books. Here is a look at how area public and private school teams fared on Friday night:
Hilton Head Island 53, Beaufort 20: Thaddeus Czarnecki accounted for five touchdowns as the Seahawks closed out the regular season at 9-1.
HHI will be No. 2 seed and host South Aiken in 4A lower state playoffs and be at home next week.
Czarnecki rushed for 169 yards, three touchdowns, returned a 92 punt for a TD and also returned a fumble 65 yards for a TD. He finished with eight tackles (4 for loss) and a sack.
Quarterback Derrick Raniszewski was 8-of-10 passing for 194 yards and two touchdowns. Jeremiah Walters caught five passes for 131 yards, a TD and also ran for a score. Kaden Stewart had a 48-yard TD catch.
Beaufort will travel to No. 1 South Pointe in the first round.
Hilton Head Christian 33, Hilton Head Prep 21: The Eagles closed out the regular season with a win over their rivals.
HHCA quarterback Kres Langhals threw for 305 yards, five touchdowns and also rushed for 72 yards. Joey Haupt caught six passes for 218 yarda and three touchdowns.
Hilton Head Christian will host Trinity Collegiate in the first round of the SCISA 3A playoffs. HHP is Calhoun Academy in the 2A playoffs.
Thomas Heyward 32, Beaufort Academy 27: Tony O’Banner ran for four touchdowns, including the game-winner with under three minutes left.
Beaufort Academy had a chance to take the lead on the next drive but the Rebels’ defense came up with an interception.
Nych Underwood had two touchdown runs and also threw a TD pass. Nic Shuford had a TD pass to Ben Davis to put BA up 27-20 with 8:10 left.
THA will host Carolina Academy in the first round of the SCISA Class A playoffs. BA will travel to Dorchester Academy.
Hardeeville 45, Branchville 0: Hardeville won its second straight game and will host a first-round playoff game next week.
Emiliano Santiago had three touchdown passes for Hardeeville, which will host Lake View in the Class A playoffs.
Thursday
Bluffton 28, May River 21: Aedan McCarthy threw two touchdown passes and ran one in as the Bobcats finished second in the region.
McCarthy’s second TD pass gave the Bobcats a 28-14 lead with five minutes left. Kordell Holley also had a TD run for Bluffton. Holley finished with 118 yards rushing.
McCarthy finished with 302 total yards and three touchdowns.
Sean Mitchell led May River with two touchdown runs. Justin Head also had a TD run for the Sharks. Mitchell rushed for 139 yards.
Bluffton will host Gilbert in first round of 4A playoffs and May River will host Wilson.
Pinewood Prep 48, John Paul II 28: Silas Brawner threw for 255 yards and four touchdowns in Pinewood’s win.
Lavoris Lucas caught five passes for 127 yards and a TD and also had two rushing touchdowns for Pinewood. Jayden Alexander caught four passes for 78 yards and two scores. Grayson Salego led Pinewood with 112 yards rushing.
John Paul II (5-5) will begin the postseason next week.
Hanahan 31, Battery Creek 21: Xavier Sabbock rushed for 76 yards and two touchdowns for Hanahan.
Battery Creek is at Loris in first round of the 3A playoffs.
