HS Football Roundup: Hilton Head wins region title, Bluffton rallies past Bishops
The 10th week of high school football action is in the books. Here is a look at how area public and private school teams fared on Friday night:
Hilton Head Island 46, Colleton County 14: The Seahawks wrapped up their first region title since 2008 with a blowout win.
Hilton Head Island still in the running for the No. 1 overall seed in Class 4A Lower State playoffs and will begin the postseason at home in two weeks.
Thaddeus Czarnecki and Jayvin Risher each had two touchdown runs for HHI. Jeremiah Walters also had a TD and QB Derrick Raniszewski threw a TD pass to Semaj Robinson.
Beau Sexson had a 30-yard FG.
May River 10, Beaufort 6: Sean Mitchell had a TD run and Hudson Tanner kicked a field goal as the Sharks hung on to beat the Eagles and stay tied with Bluffton for second place in the region.
May River and Bluffton play next week.
Tylik Isom had a TD run for Beaufort to cut the lead to 10-6 in the fourth quarter.
Bluffton 31, Bishop England 24: Quarterback Aedan McCarthy scored on a 5-yard run late in the fourth quarter to help the Bobcats to a come-from-behind win.
Bluffton trailed 24-7 after BE’s touchdown early in the third quarter but shut the Bishops out the rest of the way.
McCarthy hit Amare Patterson on a touchdown pass to tie it at 24-24 with 10:54 left. Then, McCarthy ran in the game-winner with 2:07 left.
BE drove it to the Bluffton 35, but Carnell Warren sealed it with an interception on a deep pass at the 1-yard line. Warren also caught a TD pass.
Hilton Head Christian 35, John Paul II 21: Kres Langhals threw for 308 yards and accounted for four touchdowns as the Eagles defeated the Warriors.
Langhals added 112 rushing yards in the win. Hudson Baker rushed for 100 yards for HHCA and also caught a TD pass.
HHCA’s Joseph Houpt caught seven passes for 108 yards and also threw a TD. Jackson Richardson also caught seven passes for 103 yards and a TD. Sam Strum had TD catch for HHCA.
Jadon Inabinett and Alan Wolf had TD runs for JPII. Wolf led the Warriors with 162 yards rushing. Merrick Baroni had a kickoff return for a touchdown.
Beaufort Academy 44, Andrew Jackson Academy 8: Devin Fripp caught two touchdown passes in the win for BA.
Gunnar Andrews also had a TD catch and Nych Underwood had two touchdown runs.
Carolina Academy 30, Thomas Heyward 27: Chandler Prosser scored a touchdown with three minutes left to give the Bobcats a win over the Rebels.
THA had a chance for a go-ahead score but fumbled at the 50.
The Rebels trailed 24-6 but rallied and took the lead on Josh Gibson’s touchdown run with eight minutes left in the game.
Gibson finished with three touchdown runs.
Hardeeville 33, Branchville 0: Hardeeville rolled to its third win of the season against Branchville.
Dillon Christian 20, Hilton Head Prep 10: Jordan Blackmon had two touchdowns in a game that was postponed from earlier in the season.
Orangeburg-Wilkinson 48, Battery Creek 8: O-W ran its record to 9-0 and will play Oceanside Collegiate for the region title next week.
Hampton County 62, Whale Branch 12: The Warriors fell on the road to Hampton.
