HS Football Roundup: Hilton Head beats unbeaten Bishops. Bluffton bounces back
The sixth week of high school football action is in the books. Here is a look at how area public and private school teams fared on Friday night:
Hilton Head Island 41, Bishop England 10: Thaddeus Czarnecki ran for three touchdowns and Derek Raniszewski threw two touchdowns as the Seahawks handed the Bishops their first loss of the season in a matchup of ranked teams.
Bishop England was ranked No. 3 in 4A and HHI was No. 10.
Czarnecki rushed for 187 yards and also had seven tackles (2 for loss) and a sack on defense. Jayvin Risher rushed for 107 yards and a TD. Ty Wiedemann and Jeremiah Walters each had TD catches.
Will Jimenez and Josh Bigger each had two sacks for the HHI defense.
Bluffton 48, Beaufort 7: Quarterback Aedan McCarthy and running back Kordell Holley each ran for three touchdowns as the Bobcats won the Broad River Bowl.
The loss snapped Bluffton’s two-game losing streak. McCarthy also threw a long TD pass to Amare Patterson. The senior was 21-of-27 passing for 476 yards and also rushed for 37 yards.
Patterson had three catches for 156 yards and Roman Benjamin had three catches for 100 yards.
Donavin Clark had a fumble recovery in the end zone for Beaufort’s score.
May River 35, Colleton County 12: The Sharks moved to 5-1 in winning their region opener.
Tony Cooper rushed for 80 yards and two touchdowns. Sean Mitchell, Luc Tran and Justin Head also had TDs for the Sharks.
Thomas Heyward 47, Patrick Henry 14: Quarterback Josh Gibson ran for three touchdowns and threw one in the THA’s win.
Tony O’Banner had a TD run and kickoff return for a score.
North Charleston 16, Battery Creek 13: Lorenzo Kitching had a TD run and also returned a kickoff 75 yards for a score in North Charleston’s win.
Bethesda 50, Beaufort Academy 0: Bethesda scored 43 points in the first half in the win over the Eagles.
Jordan Turner had 101 yards passing and three touchdowns, all to Ralo Wesley. Isaiah Jones returned two fumbles for touchdowns.
Ridgeland 52, Denmark-Olar 12: Ridgeland won its game of the season in a blowout.
John Paul II 42, First Baptist 10: The Golden Warriors racked up 487 yards of offense and ended a two-game losing streak with a win over the Hurricanes.
Jadon Inabinett led the way, carring it 10 times for 243 yards and two touchdowns. QB Alan Wolf ran for a score and threw a TD to Sean Phalen and Andrew Boyden also had a TD run. Phelan also added two sacks on defense and Wolf picked off a pass.
Bulloch Academy 55, Hilton Head Christian 28: The Eagles went out of state and dropped their third straight game.
Kres Langhals threw for 390 yards and three touchdowns. Jackson Richardson had six catches for 130 yards and two touchdowns. Sam Strum had seven catches for 131 yards and a TD and Joseph Haupt had seven catches for 129 yards.
Pee Dee Academy 44, Hilton Head Prep 0: The Dolphins dropped their region opener to the Golden Eagles.
