May River senior running back voted Island Packet HS Football Player of Week

The sixth week of the high school football regular season is in the books.

The votes are in, and May River’s Sean Mitchell won the vote for The Island Packet’s High School Football Player of the Week.

Thanks for all who voted. There will be a new poll on Tuesday.

Player of the Week Nominees

Thaddeus Czarnecki, RB/LB, Hilton Head Island: Junior had 15 tackles (1 for loss), three pass break-ups and two quarterback hurries. On offense, he carried it 17 times for 75 yards in the win over Bluffton.

Lucas Gates, WR/S, Bluffton: Senior caught four passes for 43 yards, a TD, threw a 26-yard touchdown, had seven tackles and picked off a pass in a loss to Hilton Head Island.

Javar Henderson, LB, Ridgeland: Had a sack, caused and returned fumble for TD in win over Hardeeville.

Sean Mitchell, RB, May River: Senior carried it 24 times for 206 yards, three touchdowns, caught a TD pass and had an interception on defense in the win over Georgetown.

Derrick Raniszewski, QB, Hilton Head Island: Junior was 8-of-13 passing for 213 yards, a TD and carried it seven times for 21 yards and two TDs in the win over Bluffton.

Ty Simmons, ATH, Battery Creek: Simmons had eight tackles (two for loss) and interception in a win over Whale Branch. On offense, he ran it five times for 66 yards and a TD.
