HS Football Roundup: Beaufort wins on wild final play. Bluffton stays unbeaten
The fourth week of high school football action is in the books. Here is a look at how area public and private school teams fared on Friday night:
Beaufort 33, Goose Creek 27: The Eagles scored on the final play of the game to win their first game of the season.
With the score tied at 27 and six seconds left, Beaufort attempted a game-winning field goal. Goose Creek blocked the field goal attempt but Colton Freeman scooped it up and ran it 15 yards for the touchdown as time expired.
Brayden Moyd-Smalls threw for 64 yards and a touchdown and also ran for two scores. Tylik Isom added a TD run for the Eagles.
Bluffton 31, Hampton County 7: The Bobcats ran their record to 4-0 with a win over Hampton.
Quarterback Aedan McCarthy threw for 341 yards and four touchdowns, two to Amare Patterson. Carnell Warren and Roman Benjamin also had TDs.
Jacobi Saunders had 12 tackles and forced two fumbles for Bluffton’s defense.
Hilton Head Island 59, Hardeeville 18: Derrick Raniszewski threw two touchdown passes, while Semaj Robinson and Jayvin Risher each ran for two as the Seahawks moved to 3-1.
Raniszewski was 7-for-12 passing for 154 yards. Tyrone Hill also had a touchdown run and Bubba Gadson returned an interception for a touchdown.
May River 36, Brookland-Cayce 29: Sean Mitchell had two touchdowns, including the go-ahead one in the second half in the Sharks’ win over the Bearcats.
Charlie Crace had a strip sack fumble to seal May River’s win. Andrew Johnson added two TDs for May River and Tony Cooper had one.
Andrew Frick had three touchdown passes, two to Tyree Johnson, for B-C.
Beaufort Academy 41, Lee Academy 0: Nych Underwood ran for two scores and quarterback Nic Shuford threw a TD and ran for one as the Eagles moved to 5-0 on the season.
Ben Davis caught a TD pass for Beaufort Academy.
Hilton Head Christian 56, John Paul II 22: Quarterback Reid McCollum threw three touchdowns and ran for two in the Eagles’ victory.
Joseph Haupt caught two touchdowns and Sam Strum had one. Kres Langhals had an interception return and fumble return for touchdown for HHCA.
Jadon Inabinett and Alan Wolf had touchdown runs for JPII.
Williamsburg Academy 40, Thomas Heyward 12: Grant Small rushed for 213 yards and four touchdowns for Williamsburg Academy,
Bethesda Academy 47, Hilton Head Prep 0: Jordan Turner threw for 118 yards and four touchdowns in Bethesda’s win. Ralo Wesley had two TD catches.
Battery Creek 57, Bethune Bowman 14: The Dolphins picked up their first victory of the season.
