HS Football Roundup: Bluffton, May River, Hilton Head pick up non-region wins
The third week of high school football action is in the books. Here is a look at how area public and private school teams fared on Friday night:
Bluffton 33, Savannah Country Day (Ga.) 20
Aedan McCarthy threw for more than 300 yards and four touchdowns in the Bobcats’ victory.
Carnell Warren and Amare Patterson each caught two TD passes for Bluffton. Warren and Patterson each had an interception on defense.
Hilton Head Island 36, Aiken 17
Jayvin Risher had three touchdowns on offense and also returned an interception 55 yards in the Seahawks’ win.
Risher had TD runs of 1 and 23 yards and also caught a 3-yard pass from quarterback Derrick Raniszewski.
Raniszewski also had a 92-yard TD pass to Jeremiah Waters.
May River 34, Lake City 16
Quarterback Luc Tran ran for two scores and threw for one in the Sharks’ win.
Running back Sean Mitchell rushed for two TDs and caught a TD pass. Michael Poole had two sacks to lead May River’s defense.
Philip Simmons 17, Beaufort 6
Keaudre Jenkins had a 98-yard punt return for a touchdown for Beaufort’s lone score.
Keenan 34, Battery Creek 27
Hunter O’Neal rushed for a school-record 426 yards and five touchdowns in the win for the Raiders. O’Neal’s final TD of the game was a 73-yarder in the fourth quarter to put the game away. Keenan trailed 14-0 at one point in the game.
Whale Branch 8, Ridgeland 0
Makhi Zackery found Kevin Mims for a touchdown early in the fourth quarter in the Warriors’ win.
Whale Branch defense had a safety in the game.
East Clarendon 26, Hardeeville 6
The Wolverines moved to 3-0 and handed Hardeeville its second straight defeat.
Bethesda Academy (Ga.) 50, John Paul II 14
Jordan Turner threw for 185 yards and three touchdowns in Bethesda’s win.
Ralo Wesley caught four passes for 114 yards and two touchdowns. Bethesda’s Jordan Cheever added two rushing touchdowns.
Quarterback Alan Wolf threw for 102 yards and rushed for 53, including a 48-yard TD run for JPII. Jadon Inabinett also had a TD run for the Warriors.
Beaufort Academy 42, Patrick Henry 6
Nych Underwood ran for three TDs and quarterback Nic Shuford had a pair of TDs in the win for the Eagles.
Shuford ran for a score and threw a TD pass to ? Floyd. Devin Fripp also had a TD for BA
Orangeburg Prep 41, Thomas Heyward 27
Cholly Williams threw the go-ahead touchdown to Council Burroughs in the fourth quarter as Orangeburg Prep rallied to beat THA.
Tony O’Banner had four rushing touchdowns to lead THA.
Dorchester Academy 42, Hilton Head Prep 0
DA moved to 2-0 with a win over the Dolphins.
