HS Football Rewind: Hilton Head, Bluffton, May River open up seasons with wins
High school football started for most public school teams across South Carolina this week.
Here is a look at how teams from the Lowcountry fared in Week 1:
Bluffton 49, Whale Branch 0
Aedan McCarthy threw for three touchdowns and Kordell Holley ran for three in the Bobcats’ opening victory.
McCarthy was 15-of-19 for 263 yards passing. He also rushed for 68 yards and a TD. Holley rushed for 91 yards.
Amare Patterson caught six passes for 47 yards and two touchdowns. Roman Benjamin had four catches for 74 yards and a score. Cardell Warren had three catches for 62 yards.
Hilton Head Island 59, Stall 12
Derrick Raniszewski threw three touchdown passes and also rushed for one in the Seahawks’ season opener.
Raniszewski was 11-of-18 passing for 210 yards. Jeremiah Walters had five catches for 136 yards and two scores. Kaden Stewart also had a TD catch.
Thaddeus Czarnecki rushed for 104 yards, a TD and had seven tackles. Lincoln Dahlin, Jayvin Risher and Semaj Robinson also had TD runs. Risher also had an interception.
Hilton Head Christian 36, Battery Creek 14
Reid McCollum threw four touchdown passes, including three to Jay Houpt as the Eagles bounced back after losing their opener last week.
Thomas Gehm also had a TD catch for the Eagles.
May River 37, Airport 8
The Sharks spoiled the debut of new Airport coach Chris Napier on Thursday night.
Sean Mitchell had two touchdown runs while Andrew Johnson ran for a score and caught a TD pass from Luc Tran.
Hardeeville 43, Bethune-Bowman 32
Kmari Brown had three touchdowns as the Hardeeville rallied from a second-half deficit to defeat Bethune Bowman
Eau Claire 14, Ridgeland 0
Ridgeland lost on the road to the Shamrocks.
Laurence Manning 37, John Paul II 0
The Warriors dropped to 1-1 on the season after losing to the SwampCats.
Jadon Inabinett had 150 all-purpose yards in the loss for JPII.
Beaufort Academy 41, Carolina 28
Nych Underwood had four touchdown runs and also returned an interception for a score as Beaufort Academy defeated Carolina Academy.
St. Andrew’s 28, Hilton Head Prep 14
The Dolphins dropped their second straight game in a contest that was shortened to one half because of lightning.
Wyatt Harmer had a TD pass to Brody Hausher for HHP.
Fort Dorchester 17, Beaufort 6
Anthony Kahler had a TD pass to Keandre Jenkins in the Eagles’ loss.
The game was played on Monday night because of the weather from Friday.
Thomas Heyward canceled
Thomas Heyward’s game against Bethesda Academy wasn’t played because of weather and won’t be made up.
