Sweet Sweep: Bluffton girls, boys take first at SC cross country championships

Bluffton swept the Class 4A cross country championships on Friday at The Farm in Newberry.

The Bobcats finished first in the boys and girls team championships.

Bluffton boys finished with 100 points, two more than Hilton Head Island. South Pointe was third with 103 points. It was Bluffton’s first boys cross country championship since winning back-to-back titles in 2005-06.

Bluffton’s Boyd Collins (16:39) was fifth to lead the Bobcats and earn all-state honors, which is the top 15 runners. Cooper Anderson (17:12) was 17th and Earlon Baker (17:14) was 18th.

Hilton Head’s JD Gillman (16:27) was second to lead the Seahawks. Joshua Gordillo (16:55) was 11th.

May River’s Braxton Talley was 15th. The Sharks finished fourth as a team. Wren’s Grant Young won the 4A boys championship.

For the Bluffton girls, it was the program’s first championship. Bluffton finished with 69 points. Bishop England was second with 83.

Three Bluffton runners finished in the top-10. Giada Carge (19:45) was sixth, Madelyn Crapps (19:45) was seventh and Emily Hunt (20:07) was 10th.

HHI’s Julia McKenna (19:58) was eighth and Rosa Olivetti (20:22) came in 12th. The Seahawks finished fourth and May River was sixth. The Sharks’ Gabi Lidey (20:38) was 17th.

Daniel’s Ashby Williams won the 4A girls championship.
