Bluffton, Hilton Head Island, HHCA pick up Friday night football victories
A roundup of high school football action from Friday night in the Lowcountry
Bluffton 24, May River 21
Ethan Cartmel hit a 44-yard field with 4:04 left to give the Bobcats a victory over the Sharks.
May River had a chance to tie or take the lead but fumbled late in the game deep inside Bluffton territory.
Bluffton plays HHI next week with the winner finishing second in the region.
Bluffton’s Aedan McCarthy threw three touchdowns, two to Carnell Warren and one to Nate Ulmer. McCarthy’s pass to Ulmet gave Bluffton a 21-14 lead with two minutes left in the third quarter.
MR tied it, 21-21, on Tanner Macy’s TD run with seven minutes left. Andrew Johnson and Nate Mitchell also had TD runs for the Sharks.
Hilton Head Island 29, Beaufort 11
Troy Timko and Thaddeus Czarnecki each rushed for two touchdowns as the Seahawks defeated the Eagles for their seventh win of the season.
It’s the Seahawks’ first seven-win season since 2015. HHI closes out the regular season against Bluffton.
Timko finished with a team-high 136 yards rushing. QB Derrick Raniszewski was 10-of-15 passing for 153 yards and also rushed for 57.
Carson Haines led HHI with four catches for 91 yards.
Hilton Head Christian 43, Hilton Head Prep 3
Quarterback Reid McCollum had another big night passing as the Eagles won their rivalry game in the regular season finale.
McCollum threw for 194 yards and three touchdowns. Running back Kres Langhals rushed for two TDs and caught a TD pass.
Hilton Head Christian will host Florence Christian in a first-round matchup in the SCISA 3A playoffs next week. HHP will travel to Calhoun in the first round of the 2A playoffs.
Thomas Heyward 49, Beaufort Academy 25
Tony O’Banner and Nicholas Robinson each had two touchdown runs as the Rebels finished the regular season with a 9-1 record.
THA will host Lee Academy in a first-round matchup in the SCISA Class A playoffs next week. BA will host Carolina Academy.
Kiran Boggess had two TD passes for THA.
Dietrich Shuford threw two TD passes for Beaufort Academy and also ran for one. He finished with 358 yards of total offense. Running back Nych Underwood rushed for 149 and a score
Pinewood Prep 69, John Paul II 21
Jeremiah Singleton rushed for 283 yards and two touchdowns in the win over the Warriors.
QB Asa Windham threw for 169 yards and three touchdowns and also ran one in.
Alan Wolf threw two TD passes to Dante Aiken to lead John Paul II. The Warriors will travel to Wilson Hall in the first round of the SCISA 3A playoffs next week.
Hardeville 21, Allendale-Fairfax 6
Hardeeville picked up its second straight win with a victory over Allendale-Fairfax.
Barnwell 21, Whale Branch 14
Cameron Austin had the go-ahead TD late in the third quarter in the win over Whale Branch.
Adrian Saxton sealed the win with an interception in the fourth quarter. Nehemiah Brown had two TD runs for Barnwell.
