Football roundup: Beaufort gets first win. Hilton Head Island, Bluffton win big
A roundup of Friday night’s high school football action from the Hilton Head area:
Beaufort 34, Battery Creek 7
The Eagles (1-4) picked up their first victory of the season against the Dolphins.
Caleb Stephan threw a pair of touchdown passes in his second straight start in place of an injured Samari Bonds. Jaemin Odom and Qualeek Isnar had TD grabs for the Eagles.
Elias Johnson rushed for 149 yards to lead Beaufort’s running game.
Hilton Head Island 35, Hampton County 14
Troy Timko rushed for 169 yards and two touchdowns as the Seahawks (4-1) knocked off the No. 1 team in Class 2A.
Quarterback Derrick Raniszewski was 8-of-11 passing for 108 yards and a TD. He also ran for a score. Thaddeus Czarnecki rushed for a touchdown and also led HHI with 12 tackles.
Bluffton 31, Lucy Beckham 17
The Bobcats (3-2) jumped out to a 17-0 lead at halftime to snap their two-game losing streak.
Hammond 55, Hilton Head Christian 21
The Skyhawks (5-0) scored all of their points in the first half to win the battle of defending SCISA state champions.
Quarterback Andrew Turner threw for 295 yards and four touchdowns and also ran for a TD.
Manny Johnson and Kinson Holland each caught a TD and also had a rushing score. LSU commit Mike Tyler and Jack Croft each had TD catches.
Dorchester Academy 16, Beaufort Academy 6
John Whetsell rushed for 274 yards and two touchdowns as Dorchester moved to 3-0 on the season.
Philip Simmons 43, Whale Branch 7
The Warriors suffered their second straight loss of the season.
