Poona Ford headed to AFC championship contender, reports say
Poona Ford is headed to the AFC.
The former Hilton Head Island standout is signing a one-year deal with the Buffalo Bills, the team announced on Tuesday. NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero was the first to report Ford’s signing and said that Ford turned down more money with other teams to try and win a Super Bowl ring. Buffalo is one of the favorites to win the AFC next season.
Ford was an unrestricted free agent this year and was third-ranked unrestricted free agent left, according to NFL.com. Seattle coach Pete Carroll told reporters recently they wanted Ford to come back.
“Would love to have him back,” Carroll said. “Need him to come back. We’re actively involved with that.”
Ford signed as an undrafted free agent with the Seattle Seahawks in 2018 following the NFL Draft. The former Big 12 Defensive Lineman of the Year spent all five years with Seattle and has appeared in 76 games.
Ford has played in every game the past two seasons for Seattle and has 182 tackles and 7 ½ sacks in his career. This year, he had 35 tackles and a career-high three sacks.
