Champs! Hilton Head Prep girls tennis wins state championship
The Hilton Head Prep girls tennis team won another state championship on Saturday.
The Dolphins defeated Spartanburg Day, 5-2, to win the 2022 SCISA Class 3A championship at the Palmetto Tennis Center. It is Hilton Head Prep’s first title since 2019 when it was it Class 2A. SCISA expanded to four classifications this year.
It is the school’s second championship this month. The Hilton Head Prep girls golf team also won a state title.
Hilton Head Prep defeated John Paul II in the semifinals on Friday to advance to the championship match.
Members are the team are Emma Grant, Maria Herman, Mika Shimada, Lucy Schmeil. Sierra Seabra, Ameila York, Gabby Klobucar, Molly Rankin, Izzy Lossada, Piper Lossada, Samantha Fenstermaker, and Riley Croker.
Singles: Lucy Schmeil (HHP) defeated Carlee Mason 6-0, 6-1; Katherine Baur (SD) defeated Maria Herrmann 6-1, 7-5; Carly Garrity (SD) defeated Sierra Seabra 7-6, 6-3; Molly Rankin (HHP) defeated Arden Harley 6-1, 6-0; Mika Shimada (HHP) defeated Tressa Green3 6-3, 6-2; Amelia York (HHP) defeated Ella Genoble 6-0, 6-0.
Doubles: Emma Grant/Schmeil (HHP) defeated Mason/Baur 6-1, 4-3; Herrmann/Seabra (HHP) defeated Garrity/Genoble 6-2, 6-1; Rankin/Shimada (HHP) defeated Harley/Greene 6-0, 6-0
