Beaufort baseball team wins district, golf teams qualify for state tournament

The Beaufort baseball team won the Class 4A District 6 championship on Monday.

The Eagles took the lead in the fifth inning and went on to a 4-1 win over Aiken. Beaufort advances to the Lower State round and will travel to Hartsville on Thursday.

Mason Connelly was 2-for-2 with an RBI and Malcolm Webb was 1-for-2 with an RBI.

PJ Daley pitched six innings in picking up the win. Daley allowed a run on four hits and struck out five. Zack Talbert pitched the final inning to earn the save.

Hartsville 8, Bluffton 2

The Bobcats’ postseason run ended in the district championship against the Red Foxes.

Kevin Brown was 1-for-3 with an RBI with an RBI.

Soccer

Area teams win SCISA playoff openers

Hilton Head Prep, Hilton Head Christian and John Paul II all won their opening games in SCISA girls soccer playoffs.

HHP defeated Cardinal Newman, 7-1, in the SCISA 3A playoffs. The Dolphins go to Pinewood Prep in the semifinals on Wednesday.

In Class 2A, Hilton Head Christian defeated Pee Dee Academy and John Paul II defeated Spartanburg Day, 2-1. HHCA will host Northside Christian on Wednesday and John Paul II will play Christian Academy.

Boys Golf

Area teams qualify for 4A championships

Beaufort, Hilton Head Island and May River boys golf teams all qualified for Class 4A golf championships on Monday.

The Eagles (302) finished tied for second, Seahawks (316) fourth and May River (321) tied for fifth at the Lower State championship at Florence Country Club. Bluffton’s Jones Saylor (73) qualified as an individual for the state tournament which will be Monday-Tuesday at Forest Lake Club in Columbia.

North Augusta won the qualifier with a 291.

Jack Lubkin (73) led Beaufort and was followed by Jerry Bruns (75), Simon McAlister (77) and Jack Summer (77). Jackson Crouch (76) led Hilton Head and Nolan Hawkins shot a 78. Brayden O’Leary and Nick Nelson each shot 78s to lead May River.
