Beaufort boys tennis advances, moves into Class 4A semifinals
The Beaufort Eagles tennis team moved a win away from playing for its second straight state championship.
Beaufort defeated region foe James Island, 4-2, on Monday in the Class 4A Lower State semifinal. The Eagles will travel to Myrtle Beach on Wednesday for the Lower State championship. The Seahawks defeated Hilton Head Island, 6-0.
Beaufort advanced to its first state championship last season before losing to AC Flora.
Boys Soccer
May River 4, Midland Valley 1
The Sharks scored two goals in each of the halves to defeat the Mustangs in the first round of the Class 4A playoffs.
May River will travel to Myrtle Beach on Wednesday in the second round. Jose Elias Miranda, Renty Kitty, Angelo Garcia and Joshua Carachure each had goals for the Sharks.
North Myrtle Beach 2, Beaufort 1
The Eagles lost in the first round of the 4A playoffs and the season ends at 9-7.
Beck Schwerin had a goal for Beaufort.
South Aiken 6, Bluffton 3
Leo Myers and Carlos Estrada each scored twice as South Aiken defeated Bluffton in the first round of the 4A playoffs.
Bluffton finishes the season at 9-8.
Baseball
Hilton Head Christian 15, Greenwood Christian 1 (5)
The Eagles scored in each of the first four innings to win its opener in the SCISA 2A playoffs.
HHCA will travel to Williamsburg Academy in a winner’s bracket game on Tuesday.
Keene Reese and Dylan Clark each had three RBI for HHCA. Jace Blackshear picked up the win, giving up one run on six hits over five innings.
Boys Golf
Eagles win Region 7-4A championship
The Beaufort golf team won the Region 7-4A championship on Monday at Crescent Pointe.
The Eagles shot a 290 to win by 28 shots over May River. Jerry Bruns led Beaufort with a 70 while Jack Lubkin had a 71, Simon McAlister 74 and Jack Sumner 75.
Bluffton’s Jones Salor was the medalist with a 69. The Bobcats and Lucy Beckham tied for third with a 337. Hilton Head was fifth with a 348.
Nick Nelson led May River with a 75 and Landry Williams had a 79. Nolan Hawkins led HHI with a 82.
The teams now will get ready for the lower state championship May 9 at Country Club of South Carolina in Florence.
