Kenny Conroy is leaving Hilton Head Christian Academy after a successful two-decade run at the school.
The school announced Monday that Conroy, the school’s athletic director and girls basketball coach, will be begin a new chapter in his current hometown of Savannah, Georgia.
“I am incredibly grateful for the opportunity to have been an HHCA Eagle for over two decades in various roles. For the past ten years as an employee, my experience working among such admirable colleagues has been wonderful,” Conroy said in a statement. “Thank you so much for allowing me to lead the Athletic Department while coaching an amazing group of student-athletes throughout the years. There will always be a special place in my heart for Eagle Nation.”
The school announced Jason Grunkemeyer will be the HHCA’s new athletic director, effective June 1. He joined the school in August as Director of student athlete and coach development. No replacement for the girls basketball coach has been announced yet.
Conroy served as a volunteer boys golf and girls basketball coach in the late 1990s and early 2000s before becoming the school’s girls basketball coach and athletic director in 2011. He led the Eagles to five SCISA 2A championships including four straight from 2019-2002.
Hilton Head Christian defeated Orangeburg Prep, 45-34, last month for the fourth-straight championship. Conroy went 363-83 during his coaching tenure and was a nine-time region coach of the year.
“We are incredibly grateful for the mark he is leaving on HHCA athletics,” the school wrote in a statement.
The school will have a year-end athletics banquet May 19 and will honor Conroy then.
