Anya Arroyo and Victoria Sosa earned all-state honors in helping the May River girls cross country team to a third-place finish at Class 4A meet on Thursday.

Arroyo ran with a time of 18:43 to finish second behind James Island’s Hannah Vroon (18:15), who won the individual championship for the second straight year. James Island also won the team championship.

It was the second straight year Arroyo finished as runner-up. Victoria Sosa (19:15) was fifth and the Sharks had 101 points, nine behind second-place Greenville.

“I am very proud of my whole team, not just myself,” Arroyo said. “We did amazing to get to where we are now. I wouldn’t be here if it wasn’t for their support.

“Our plan for next year is to definitely win. We are working our way back up slowly and looking forward to next year.”

Bluffton finished fourth with 117 points and Hilton Head Island was seventh. Beaufort’s Charlize Antia (19:34) was eighth to earn all-state honors, which go to the Top-10 finishers.
