Holy Trinity girls win third straight SCISA cross country championship

Holy Trinity won its third straight SCISA Class A cross country championship on Saturday at Heathwood Hall.

The Mighty Lions finished with 22 points, 28 ahead of Heritage Academy. Holy Trinity had four runners in the top 10: Bryant Salley (fourth), Ellie Schaub (seventh), AnnaCate Gray (eighth), and Brice Stepp (10th).

In the boys race, Holy Trinity finished second with 41 points. South Aiken Christian was first with 30 points. Holy Trinity had four boys finish in the Top 10 - Daniel Reedy (fifth), Ethan Marquardt (seventh), Caleb Stone (eighth) and Sam Moore (ninth).

John Paul II girls finished fifth in SCISA 2A. Brady Mahoney was 17th and Ayla Reynolds was 18th. Beaufort Academy’s Ava Richards was 19th.

John Paul II boys finished sixth in the SCISA 2A boys meet. Sebastian Frickel led the Warriors with an 11th-place finish.

Hilton Head volleyball, tennis playoffs

Hilton Head Island volleyball will go for its second straight Class 4A championship appearance on Tuesday

The Seahawks will travel to Aiken High School in the Lower State championship on Tuesday at 6 p.m. The winner advances to the state championship on Saturday at Dreher High School in Columbia.

Hilton Head, which had a bye in the first round, defeated North Augusta and Lucy Beckham to make it to the state semifinals. The Seahawks are 31-7-2 on the season and went 12-0 in region play.

The Seahawk girls tennis team will play in the third round of the 4A playoffs on Monday at Lucy Beckham. The match was originally scheduled for Thursday but was postponed because of rain. The winner plays James Island in the lower state championship on Tuesday.

Lowcountry football teams ready for SCISA playoffs

After SC High School League released its playoff brackets Saturday, the SC Independent schools released their football brackets on Sunday.

All four matchups in SCISA 2A include Lowcountry teams - Hilton Head Prep at Williamsburg Academy, Florence Christian at Beaufort Academy, Carolina Academy at Hilton Head Christian and John Paul II at Pee Dee Academy. Hilton Head Christian is the defending state champion.

In SCISA Class A, Thomas Heyward will host Dillon Christian in the first round.
