May River golf wins lower state. Area swimmers win SCISA championships

Led by a dominating performance by May River, three Lowcountry girls golf teams placed 1-2-3 in the Class 4A Lower State qualifier Monday at Country Club of South Carolina in Florence.

May River shot a 329 to win the qualifier by 34 strokes over Hilton Head Island. Bluffton was third at 366. Kylie Bowes led May River with a 76 and Claire Green shot a 78.

Brooke Niclaus led HHI with an 84 and Alexis Milbrandt shot an 88. Bluffton’s Anna LaPour shot an 85.

Myrtle Beach’s Madison Messimer was medalist with a 66.

All three teams advance to the Class 4A championship on Mon day-Tuesday at the Crescent Pointe Golf Course in Bluffton. May River is the defending state champion.

Area swimmers win SCISA championships

Several area swimmers won state championships at SCISA swim meet on Saturday.

In Class 3A girls Hilton Head Prep’s Sterling Burd took first place in the 200 and 500 freestyle race. The HHP finished ninth as a team in both the boys and girls meet.

In Class 2A boys, Hilton Head Christian’s Jack Ussery won the 200 freestyle and 100 breaststroke. Teammate Levi Eidson won the 500 freestyle.

In Class 2A girls John Paul II’s Aubrey Porada won the 500 freestyle

The HHCA boys finished third in the meet and Beaufort Academy was fifth. John Paul II girls came in fourth followed by Beaufort Academy and Hilton Head Christian
