Lowcountry boys swimmers compete in SC state championship. May River golf wins region
Hilton Head’s Blaise Minkler had two second-place finishes to help the Seahawks ro a fourth-place finish Monday at Class 4A swimming championships.
The Seahawks finished with 207 points. Eastside won the title with 603.5. Bluffton was seventh, May River 12th and Beaufort 17th in the team standings.
Minkler was second in the 500 freestyle, 100 breaststroke and was part of the Seahawks’ third-place finish in the 400 freestyle relay.
Beaufort’s James Stone was third in the 100 butterfly. May River’s Jacob Lally was fourth in the 50 and 100 freestyle. Bluffton finished fourth in the 200 medley relay and fifth in 200 freestyle relay.
May River golf wins region title
May River, which is ranked No. 1 in Class 4A, shot a 343 to win the Region 7-4A girls golf championship Monday at Pinecrest Golf Club.
Hilton Head finished second with 356 followed by Bluffton (365), Beaufort (449) and James Island (521). May River’s Kylie Bowes shot a 74 to earn medalist honors. HHI’s Alexia Milbrandt shot a 76.
The rest of the all-region team was made up of Claire Green (May River), Jennifer Richardson (Bluffton), Brooke Niclaus (HHI), Robin Zetrouer (May River) and Anna La Pour (Bluffton).
The Class 4A Lower State championship will be next Monday at the Country Club of South Carolina in Florence.
