High school roundup: May River girls ranked No. 1 in Class 4A golf rankings

The May River girls golf team is off to a strong start this season and the first SC Golf Coaches Association shows that.

The Sharks are ranked No. 1 in Class 4A, ahead of AC Flora and Catawba Ridge. May River is ranked No. 7 overall in the top 10 overall poll regardless of classification.

May finished fifth in the state in Class 3A tournament and is in its first season in Class 4A.

Class 5A: 1. Lexington; 2. Blythewood; 3. Carolina Forest; 4. Byrnes; 5. Wando

Class 4A: 1. May River; 2. A.C. Flora; 3. Catawba Ridge; 4. Pickens: 5. North Myrtle Beach

Class 3A: 1. Chesnee; 2. Gilbert; 3. Daniel; 4. Belton Honea Path; T5. Legion Collegiate Academy; T5. Greer Middle College

Hilton Head Prep defeats HHCA

Camila Burnett earned medalist honors with a 36 as Hilton Head Prep defeated Hilton Head Christian on Monday at Arthur Hills.

Bridge Wilkie had a 39 for HHP while Mackenzie Gallagher and Olivia Wilkie each shot 40s.

Rebecca Hubbard led Hilton Head Christian with a 51.

Cross Country

USC Beaufort Invitational

Beaufort’s Nash Mills won the boys’ race and Anya Arroyo won the girls race Saturday at the USC Beaufort Invitational.

Mills finished with a time of 16:16. May River’s Colin Keck was third with a 16:30 and teammate Jaxon Beese had a 16:45. Richmond Hill High School finished first overall with 32 points. Beaufort (52) was second and May River (57) third.

Arroyo had a time of 18:46, more than a minute better than the second place finisher. As a team, Bluffton finished first with 47 points. May River was second with 61.

May River, Beaufort and Bluffton made up eight of the top 11 finishers.

MRs Victoria Sosa was fourth with a 20:50 and Beaufort’s Anna Brown (20:58) fifth. Finishers seven through 11 were Bluffton’s Ava Gerschutz (21:04), Bluffton’s Kaitlyn McDonagh (21:06), MR’s Caroline Stickler (21:!2) and Bluffton’s Aubrey Sampson (21:22) and Penelope Roman (21:25).

Mike Moore Lake Murray Invitational

Cynthia Gudaitis (19:23) finished fourth and Sarah Neville () was 11th to help the Hilton Head Island girls to a fifth-place finish at the Mike Moore Lake Murray Invitational on Saturday.

Lexington girls won the meet with 36 points.

On the boys’ side, Hilton Head Island came in 11th. Max Struna (17:24) was the Seahawks’ top finisher at 46th.

Volleyball

Holy Trinity 3, Bridges Prep 0

Scores: 25-19, 25-12, 25-21.
