Hilton Head Island atop preseason boys golf rankings; May River lacrosse wins big

Three Lowcountry boys golf teams are ranked in the preseason SC Boys Golf Coaches Association polls released Monday.

Hilton Island is ranked No. 1 in Class 4A. The Seahawks won the 4A title last season by three shots over AC Flora. It was HHI’s first state championship since 1997.

Beaufort is ranked No. 6 in Class 4A. May River is ranked No. 3 in Class 3A.

Softball

Hilton Head Island 21, Wade Hampton 6 (5)

Reagan Marchant had four hits and three RB and Maggie Todd had four RBII in the Seahawks’ victory.

HHI scored at least three runs in all five innings.

Shania Lugo and Avery Wagner each had two hits and two RBI. Lugo struck out nine and pitched a complete-game.

Thomas Heyward 14, Beaufort 13

Thomas Heyward built an 11-2 lead and held on to beat the Eagles.

Nia Holmes homered and drove in two runs for Beaufort, and Kayla Johnson had three RBI.

Bluffton 19, Battery Creek 5

Senior Isabella Spears and freshman Parker Ray each lead the way each with four hits.

Marissa Majorkiewicz and Katie Ryan each had two hits. Ray pitched four innings for the win.

Baseball

Berkeley 5, Bluffton 3

Anthony Storzieri and Ayden Nix each had RBI in the loss for Bluffton.

Boys Lacrosse

May River 14, Effingham 5

Juniors Hudson Kramer and Rob Gadomski, each had four goals and two assists in the Sharks victory.

Juniors Mike Gonzales had two goals and an assist and Ethan Sotiropoulos had a goal and two assists. Senior CJ Wajszczuk tallied one goal and one assist.

Senior Goalie Sean Morris saved eight shots.

Basketball

Bluffton’s Aiken picked for North-South game

Bluffton’s Tatyana Aiken has been selected to play in the North-South All-Star basketball game on March 21 at Lexington High School.

Aiken averaged 14.5 points, 8.1 rebounds, 3.4 assists and 3.4 steals this season.

Girls Soccer

Hilton Head Christian 3, Holy Trinity 1

Abby Peduzzi had a hat trick in the Eagles’ victory.

Abby Carte scored Holy Trinity’s lone goal.

Hilton Head Christian 8, Holy Trinity 1

JP Peduzzi had three goals, Cameron Strickland and Khalyl Chaplin each scored twice in the win over Holy Trinity.

Parker Smith had Holy Trinity’s only goal.
