Roundup: Fleek’s goal helps May River boys past Hilton Head Island

Joel Fleek’s goal in the 80th minute gave May River a 3-2 win over Hilton Head Island on Tuesday in boys soccer action.

Fleek had two goals in the match, including the game-winning free kick. Zeke Chappelear added a goal for the Sharks to tie at 2-2 in the 68th minute. The Sharks held the Seahawks to just two shots on goal.

MR’s Sebastian Orlando recorded a shutout in the second half.

HHI’s Ivan Ramírez scored the game’s first goal in the 25th minute to give the Seahawks a 1-0 lead.

May River (3-1) travels to Beaufort (0-1) Thursday night for another non-region match. Kickoff is at 7 p.m.

Bluffton 4, Wayne County 3

Uriel Zarracan scored twice in Bluffton’s season-opening win.

Ricardo Valesquez and Brayan Morales also had goals for Bluffton. Davidson Alvaez-Reyes had two assists.

Girls Soccer

Hilton Head Island 7, May River 0

Niki Farizy, Hannah Stanhope and Megan Spiehs each had two goals for the Seahawks against the Sharks.

Anna Kurtz also had a goal for Hilton Head Island. Goalie Jannah Tepic had a shutout.

Bluffton 11, Wayne County 0

Adeline Rios scored five goals and Katie Shrewsbury had three in Bluffton’s win.

Jill Lauver had four assists.

Baseball

Bluffton 4, East Clarendon 1

Eric Eastham and Preston Burnside combined to give up just one run in Bluffton’s win Monday.

Anthony Storzieri led Bluffton with two hits.

John Paul II 10, Memorial Day 0

Ray Johnson tossed a no-hitter, striking out 12 as the Warriors defeated Memorial Day.

Johnson and Tyler Davis also had three hits.

Boys Lacrosse

May River 7, Bluffton 4

Junior Hudson Kramer had four goals in the Sharks’ victory over the Bobcats.

Freshman Brooks van Esselstyn added two goals and two assists, and Senior CJ Wajszczuk netted 1 goal. Freshman Hayden Borth added two assists and junior Mike Gonzales also added an assist.

Girls Lacrosse

May River 17, Beaufort 6

Senior Sydney Santos had five goals, Katie Benenati four and Corynn Psychohios added three in the Sharks’ win.

Boys Golf

Hilton Head Prep wins Lowcountry Invitational

Hilton Head Prep boys golf team won the Lowcountry Invitational at Chechessee Creek Club.

The event was shortened to one day because of rain.

The Dolphins shot a 213, five shots better than Bishop England. Hilton Head Island and Porter-Gaud tied for third at 221. Hilton Head Christian (224), May River (230), Beaufort (233) and Bluffton (234) rounded out the field.

Hilton Head Christian’s Max Green and Hilton Head Prep’s Mackenzie Gallagher each shot 70 to tie for medalist honors.
