Lowcountry hoops teams moving on in posteason
May River rallied from a fourth-quarter deficit and is moving on in the Class 3A girls basketball playoffs.
Chyna Sneed scored 24 points as the Sharks defeated Dillon, 56-52, on Thursday night. The Sharks host Manning on Monday with the winner advancing to the Lower State championship in Florence.
May River trailed 38-35 going into the fourth quarter. Gracyn Drury added 10 points for May River.
Whale Branch 51, Kingstree 31
Zhani Thompson scored 22 points to lead the Warriors to a win in the second round of the 2A playoffs.
Whale Branch heads to Latta on Monday for a third-round matchup. Kynew Barnwell chipped in with 11 for the Warriors.
North Myrtle Beach 49, Bluffton 33
North Myrtle Beach used a 23-7 first quarter to defeat Bluffton on Thursday in the second round of the Class 4A playoffs.
NMB heads to North Augusta in the third round Monday. Bluffton’s season ends at 21-4.
Boys
Manning 64, Ridgeland-Hardeeville 36
The Jaguars’ bid for a second straight state title appearance ended Friday night.
Manning outscored R-H, 47-19, in the second half for the win in the 3A playoffs. Manning faces Cheraw in the third round. The Jags’ season ends at 19-9.
Brandon Howard led the Jaguars with 13 points and Mauriq Singleton had 10.
Bishop England 73, May River 35
The Bishops dominated in the second half to defeat the Sharks in the second round of the 3A playoffs.
BE hosts Wade Hampton in a third-round game Monday. The Bishops outscored the Sharks, 46-15, in the second half.
Harry Cash led May River with 17 points.
Hilton Head Prep 60, Shannon Forest 29
Hilton Head Prep advanced to the second round of the SCISA 2A playoffs with an easy win Friday
HHP faces Christian Academy of Myrtle Beach on Monday in the second round at 3:30 p.m. in Sumter.
Kane Eanes scored 14 points off the bench and Tyrone Calloway had 13 to lead the Dolphins. HHP led 18-4 after the first quarter.
Beaufort Academy 63, Holly Hill 38
Dawson Coleman had 19 points and Elijah Fess scored 17 as the Beaufort Academy won its first round game in the SCISA Class A playoffs.
The Eagles face Richard Winn on Monday at 7 p.m. at Wilson Hall in Sumter.
Braydon Dineen added 11 points for BA.
Spartanburg Day 56, Hilton Head Christian 38
Spartanburg Day used a 17-5 second quarter to defeat HHCA in the first round of the SCISA 2A playoffs Friday.
Floyd Hargrove led the Eagles with 12 points.
Christian Academy 69, John Paul II 27
The Warriors lost their first-round matchup in the SCISA Class A playoffs.
Christian Tilton led JP II with six points.
College Softball
USC Beaufort wins pair
The USC Beaufort softball team defeated Freed-Hardeman, 8-0, and Reinhardt, 6-0, on Friday on the first day of the RU Invite.
In game one, Emily Martin had two doubles and three RBI and Amber Locasto drove in two. Maria Molloseau got the win, allowing four hits and striking out six.
In game two, Rachel Catt pitched a complete-game, three-hitter and struck out five. Locasto, Martin, Kaitlyn, O’Hearn and Kaleigh Forbush each had RBI for the Sand Sharks, who moved to 10-1 on the season.
