Hilton Head Island boys, May River girls pick up non-region wins

Hilton Head Island rallied from a seven-point fourth-quarter deficit to defeat May River, 49-47, on Tuesday in boys high school basketball action.

May River led 38-31 entering the fourth quarter.

Gaston Moore and Sam Summa each scored 12 points to lead Hilton Head Island. The Sharks had three players in double figures. Harry Cash led the way with 13 points. James Layman had 12 and junior Brady Harrell 11.

Hilton Head Prep 40, St. Andrews 39

Freshman Kane Eanes hit a go-ahead 3-pointer with less than three minutes left as the Dolphins went on to defeat St. Andrews.

Tyrone Calloway led Prep with 21 points and Stone McDonald finished with nine points and led the team in rebounding.

Hilton Head Prep 75, Colleton Prep 21 (Monday)

The Dolphins jumped out to an early lead and led 44-10 at halftime.

Tyrone Calloway had 23 points to lead the Dolphins and Kane Eanes scored 18 points off the bench. Ryan Mikell added 13 points off the bench.

Girls Basketball

May River 44, Hilton Head Island 29

May River broke open a close game with a 17-11 third quarter on its way to a win over Hilton Head.

Chynna Sneed led the Sharks with 12 points, followed by Olivia Peluso with 11 and Emma Peluso with 10. Janiya Ferebee led the Seahawks with 10 points. Miley Ray added eight and Chyna Fields chipped in with six.

Hilton Head Prep 24, St. Andrews 12

Ella Clark had seven points while Haylee Hopman and Abi Mendoza each had five for Prep in the low-scoring affair.

The Dolphins didn’t allow a point in the second half.

John Paul II 41, Coastal Hurricanes 39 (Monday)

Tkai Devore hit the game-winning shot to lift the Warriors past the Hurricanes.

Devore finished with 27 points, 18 boards, seven steals and four assists. Abby Quinty had eight points and rebounds. Jasmine Hamilton scored six points.

Four Lowcountry teams in latest SC Basketball Coaches polls

Ridgeland-Hardeeville and Whale Branch boys and Bluffton and May River girls all are ranked in the latest SC Basketball Coaches polls released Tuesday.

Ridgeland-Hardeeville is No. 10 in 3A and Whale Branch No. 5 in 2A. Buffton is No. 7 in 4A girls and May River 10th in 3A girls.
