Lowcountry Hoops Roundup: Calloway’s big night helps Hilton Head Prep past rival HHCA

Tyrone Calloway had another big night as Hilton Head Prep cruised past rival Hilton Head Christian, 85-52, on Friday in boys high school basketball.

Calloway poured in a game-high 38 points. Stone McDonald added 14 while Luke Bennett had 11 and Ryan Mikell had 10.

The Dolphins, who led by 13 points at halftime, outscored the Eagles 29-15 in the third.

Bluffton 63, Beaufort 56

Zyrin Odom had 16 points and 13 rebounds to lead Beaufort. Oliver Holmes had 15 points and Daniel Phares had 10 boards.

John Paul II 45, Thomas Heyward 34

John Paul II held off Thomas Heyward on the road to improve to 3-3 in region play.

CJ Knight led JPII with 14 pts and seven rebounds, Mark Knight added 12 points, six rebounds and four assists.

JPII returns to action on the road Tuesday at Colleton Prep.

Ridgeland-Hardeeville 59, Lake Marion 45

Mauriq Singleton led three Jaguar players in double figures in the region win.

Shaleaf Cherry added 17 and Brandon Howard had 13 points, seven rebounds and seven assists. The Jags led 29-19 at halftime.

Whale Branch 81, Bamberg-Ehrhardt 53

Four players scored in double figures in the Warriors’ win over the Red Raiders.

Shawn Chisholm led the way with 21 points, Javon Hogue had 14, Nick Pringle 12 and Shemar Williams 10.

Girls Basketball

Hilton Head Island 40, Colleton County 37 (OT)

The Seahawks went to OT to win their first region game of the year.

Miley Ray scored 19 to lead the Seahawks, McKenzie Ryan added nine Janiya Ferebee 6.

John Paul 58, Thomas Heyward 21

The Warriors gave up only six points in the second half on their way to a blowout win.

Tkai Devore and Jasmine Hamilton both tallied double doubles for JP II. Devore scored 18 points, had 14 rebounds, six assists and eight steals. Hamilton had 14 points, 11 rebounds and was 11-of-11 from the free-throw line.

Taylor Michael added 16 points and five steals.

May River 60, Wade Hampton 45

Jordan Bigham scored 19 points and Gracyn Drury had 18 in the Sharks’ region victory.

Bluffton 54, Beaufort 35

The Bobcats moved to 3-0 in region play with the win over the Eagles.

Hilton Head Christian 62, Hilton Head Prep 32

Jasmine Campbell scored 19 and Dior Shelton had 16 to lead the Eagles to a win over the Dolphins.
